There are different types of industrial shelving to choose from: wire shelving, mobile shelving, double rivet shelving, open steel shelving, closed steel shelving, and more. Additional accessories are available to help in organizing the items.

Comparison of industrial shelving

Wire shelving systems are durable and modular. Wire shelving units are strong and sturdy and easily adjustable to cater to different items. Given the wire architecture, dust build-up is at a minimal, making it very easy to maintain and clean. Additional shelving units can be acquired to hold more items.

Warehouse shelving is commonly bulk shelving units and metal shelves. These units can be steel shelving with adjustable shelves to allow for storage of different sized products. Many metal shelves can have capacities from 200 pounds per shelf up to 900 pounds or more. Bulk shelving units offer shelves that are wider and deeper than a lot of standard shelving units.

Double rivet shelving, open style metal clip shelving and closed metal clip shelving all provide great weight capacity. Since they are easy to assemble and disassemble, they are great for make-shift workspaces and storage areas. Similar to other industrial shelving, these are modular and you can easily add more shelves along with your existing ones.

Rolling track shelving offers maximum storage in minimum space. When an isle is required between each row of shelving units, rolling track shelving only requires one isle space. This can greatly increase your storage space.

Another shelving option that may fit your needs is plastic bin shelving units. These offer the ability to store multiple parts in one place in an organized manor. These bin shelving units offer many configurations in sizes of plastic bins.

Pallet and Cantilever Rack

Tear drop pallet rack is the most widely used type of used today. This design allows you to slide the beams in to place with out the need of fasteners. These are also called bolt less pallet racks. This type of Industrial rack can be used for many applications. Most are commercial in nature like warehouses, industrial plants, schools and storage units. However you can also use this type of rack in your garage or a larger storage shed. Farmers use them in barns to stack a variety of items.

One of the benefits of industrial pallet racks used or new is that they have a very high load capacity. Generally a rack of this nature can handle 35 to 48,000 pounds of weight depending on the size of the unit. This makes it prefect for stacking heavy equipment or things like tractor tires, car parts, large vats of liquids and such. You can also double up on a set of racks and use them for storing carpet or longer items. Industrial pallet racks were mainly designed for actually storing pallets or skids of huge amounts of material, but as you can see their are many uses for this type of industrial equipment.

Cantilever Racks are designed to store longer or odd shaped material. Things like pipes or rolls of carpet. Although you can use two regular pallet racks installed two deep will be able to handle some of the same material a Cantilever rack is designed with this purpose in mind as a bulk rack stand. This type of industrial rack uses 12' or 16' tower in rows of 3 with several sets of steel arms attached. The most common uses for this type of equipment is for storing pipe or carpet rolls.

Warehouse Pallet Racks are generally used for bulk storage in large or small warehouses. Warehouses tend to store large quantities of material which pallet racks are perfectly equipped to handle. You can deck this type industrial rack with particle board, plywood or wire decking. In warehouses a used pallet rack is probably a good idea anyway especially if you use fork lifts and heavy equipment which is likely to damage the paint and ding the beams.
